COLVA
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Sunday urged the people of Colva not to oppose development and sought a collective effort for development of the village. Alemao also asked the villagers to elect good leaders to the forthcoming panchayat elections.
Addressing the Colva gram sabha, Alemao assured the villagers that he will take up development of the Colva market project by developing the fish market complex. He also said that the he would take up the garbage issue on a priority basis with the government and would purchase a bailing machine for the panchayat, however he said, the government has no funds and will take some time to settle down.
He further stated that if the bailing machine cannot be bought through government funds, the same will be purchased through panchayat funds, but assured full support to the village panchayat in addressing the garbage issue.
He also appealed to the villagers to support good candidates in the forthcoming panchayat elections. Alemao said that if the panchayat is handed over to members of the opposition, it could hamper the development in the village. Hence it is important to elect good leaders to facilitate development.
He also assured to explore possibilities to put a sweeping machine to clear the sand along the beach after panchayat members raised concern over sand being blown on the road. The members said that it is not possible to clear the sand by sweeping and using a spade.
Alemao also said that he has on his priority list to find a solution to sea water entering houses during the high tide. He said something has to be done to address the problem and it is on the top of his priority list.
He also said that he will ensure the restoration of the football ground which was developed during his previous tenure as Colva held a very high position in terms of producing quality footballers.
