Promising to streamline services at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday emphasised on strengthening the premier medical institute of the state.
Speaking at a meeting held with the heads of departments at the GMC, Rane assured that infrastructure facilities at the medical college would be improved.
Assuring to provide better facilities to the patients, he said the number of registration counters would also be increased for the benefit of the patients.
Rane had convened the meeting to acquaint himself of the difficulties faced by doctors in the discharge of their duties and also to ascertain the facilities required to provide better services to the people. He asked the GMC authorities to reshuffle the administrative staff working in various departments.
The Health Minister vowed to make the GMC one of the best hospitals in the country, appealing to the doctors to make suggestions on making the GMC alive to the needs of the patients.
“The condition of many units at the hospital is very critical. This will not be tolerated,” he thundered, directing the dean and the HoDs to come up with proposals for rendering quality medical services.
Recalling his visit to the GMC last week, Rane said that he was appalled to see stray dogs moving freely in the hospital, and warned that lethargy would not be tolerated in future.
He admitted that workload at the hospital has increased manifold.
The meeting also discussed issues like recruitment of doctors, other manpower besides improving infrastructure at the hospital.
