CURCHOREM: Stating that the assembly by-elections would be held in the state only after the presidential elections, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said that decision about choosing his constituency to contest the bypoll would be taken only after May 9.
Addressing party workers at a meeting held at the Sarvodaya High School hall at Curchorem on Saturday evening, Parrikar said that he came to Curchorem to interact with party workers of the constituency and elicit their views on the possibility of contesting the by-poll from the Curchorem constituency.
One such meeting had also been held in Panaji where the party workers wanted him to contest the by-elections from that constituency.
Touching upon several issues, he said, “We want mobile phones, but don’t want mobile towers. We generate garbage, but we don’t want garbage treatment plants.”
He had good words for the functioning of the garbage treatment plant at Saligao saying that chief ministers and ministers of other states are visiting the plant.
Stating that major projects at Curchorem would be completed in the coming two years, he assured the CCMC of Rs 20 crore for the makeover of the market.
The demand for a mining corridor would also be taken up on priority basis, he said adding that the transport network in the state would be improved.
“Buses running on CNG will be introduced in Goa,” Parrikar said.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral also spoke at the meeting, which was also attended by CCMC chairperson Sushant Naik, deputy chairperson Sujata Naik, Assolda sarpanch Manoj Naik, Xeldem sarpanch Pramod Dessai, ZP member Hazel Fernandes, councillors, panchas and others.
