PANAJI: Allowing the shack owners to retain their shacks during the forthcoming monsoon season, the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change has provided them a relief, and saved them from the ordeal of razing these shacks before monsoon and re-constructing them at the start of the tourism season.
A notification issued by the central ministry has however laid a condition that these shack owners will not carry on business in the said structures during monsoon season.
The shack owners had made a demand as regards allowing their structures to remain intact, so that it would cut down their operational cost.
The notification issued by the joint secretary of the Union ministry Arun Kumar Mehta states that “Such structures (shacks) shall not be removed and dismantled during the months of June to August provided that the facilities available in these structures shall remain non-operational during the months of June to August.”
According to the shack owners, dismantling and re-constructing of a single shack involves an amount of nearly Rs 4 to Rs 5 lakh. The shack owners had requested the state and central government to allow structures during the months from June to August so as to cut down their operational cost.
The state government had then sent a related proposal to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Furthermore, in order to maintain transparency, the MoEFCC has asked the Coastal Regulation Zone Management Authority to create a dedicated website and post the agenda, minutes, decision taken, clearance letters, violations, action taken on the violations, and court matters including the orders of the court, on the same.
