Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday visited Vedanta’s Sanquelim reclamation mine
and partook in World Environment Day celebrations.
He was given an insight into the entire technical process of the reclamation and taken on a guided tour.
The Chief Minister also visited the Sesa Football Academy and gave away certificates to the successful candidates who passed out from the academy in April.
Speaking on the occasion, Parsekar said that “the reclamation effort shows that a closed mine can be nurtured and brought back to life protecting the environment for future generations. A restoration effort like this cannot happen overnight. It demonstrates that mines can be restored and Sanquelim is proof of that.”
Addressing the gathering, Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane said that “on World Environment Day there is no other place better than the Sanquelim reclamation mine to be visited. It exemplifies what responsible mining is all about. This place should be on the itinerary of every school child and tourist.”
Anant Shet, Speaker of Legislative Assembly, lauded the company for ecological balance and protecting the environment. It should be our natural responsibility to protect the environment, he said.
