Pre-monsoon showers lashed the state on Wednesday causing water-logging in low-lying areas and uprooting trees at several places.
The Indian meteorological department has issued warning of heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours at isolated places.
“In the next 24 hours heavy rain may occur at certain places in Goa. We have issued heavy rainfall warning for both the districts of the state,” IMD-Goa director M L Sahu said.
He said the heavy rainfall was expected to lose its intensity, and light to moderate rain will keep temperature cool from Friday onwards.
In the last 24 hours, downpour hit Sanguem (6 cm) and Quepem (4 cm), while Mapusa, Ponda, Sankhali and Valpoi each received rainfall of 3 cm.
Old Goa received rainfall of 2 cm, while Pernem, Panaji, Canacona, Margao and Mormugao recorded 1 cm of showers.
Drishti Lifesaving, a government-appointed professional lifeguard agency, has issued an advisory warning local residents as well as tourists against venturing into the sea over the next 48 hours as sea conditions are expected to be rough and heavy showers are expected to continue.
Drishti’s 700-strong lifeguard force mans state beaches throughout the year.
Owing to the present weather conditions, red flags have been put up across all beaches under Drishti’s surveillance, indicating that the marked areas are strictly no-swim zones.
