Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel, on Sunday, evacuated a cardiac patient from Vengurla Rock lighthouse (Island), following an emergency call from the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL).

As per information from the ICG Goa region, they received a message from DGLL that one of its employee Siraj Khan (56) stationed at Vengurla Rock lighthouse was suffering from severe chest pain.

The DGLL staff made attempts to navigate a boat from Vengurla beach to Rock lighthouse, but it went in vain due to rough weather condition.

The operating officer of ICG Goa Headquarter deputy commandant Ajay Kumar Ashik and the operations team worked out a plan and coordinated medical requirement on shore.

Despite bad weather condition and poor visibility due to clouds, ICG Goa helicopter was used during the early morning on Sunday.

The helicopter with medical team reached the island in 25 minutes. The ICG Goa team faced tough time while landing the helicopter as the area at the Rock lighthouse is rocky and was unsafe for landing.

However, in daring operation, the pilot in command deputy commandant Vijay Tanta undertook rough and restricted area landing on a small open space.

The patient was put on a stretcher and was taken onboard ICG helicopter.

He was later flown to a pre-planned spot at Vengurla beach and main land. The patient was then handed over to the medical team which was accompanying the ambulance van. The patient was found to be stable. He was later shifted to a local hospital there.
