Nigerian held for fraudulently obtaining SIM card

Panaji police have arrested a 36-year-old Nigerian in connection with a case pertaining to obtaining a mobile SIM card allegedly in a fraudulent manner.

The Nigerian, identified as Obi Okoroafor (36), has been remanded to three days police custody, informed the police.

Earlier this month, the police had registered a FIR under various sections of the IPC including cheating and forgery against Okoroafor, a mobile SIM card retailer from the city and activation officer of a telecom service provider. The mobile SIM card retailer has approached a court seeking anticipatory bail, the police said.

The FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by PI Sandesh Chodankar, Saligao police station. Saligao police had arrested Okoroafor in a case and during the course of investigation the police had found a SIM card used by the alleged accused which was in the name of some other person.

Police said that the alleged accused with their common intention dishonestly impersonated as Vijay Patil, Pilerne and forged the EPIC card and produced the same as genuine and succeeded in obtaining the SIM card, thereby, cheating the authorities.
