A shop, at Curchorem, selling raincoats, school bags, umbrellas and other items, caught fire on Tuesday night allegedly due to a short circuit. The shop is located along the main station road in Curchorem market. Though the fire brigade team extinguished the blaze, the material from the shop was gutted.
According to the owner of the shop, he has suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 4 lakh.
It was learnt that the owner allegedly did not have NOC from the fire station. There are several shops in a row along this road and it is alleged that many do not have the NOCs from the fire station.
Curchorem fire station in-charge Shailesh Gawade informed that when they received a call at around 11.55 p.m, they rushed to the spot with two fire brigades and doused the blaze.
He further informed that they could not identify the cause of fire and the task has been assigned to electricity department. According to him, the loss is around Rs 2 lakh.
Besides Gawade, sub-officer Surendra Naik, fire fighters S Fadke, G Bhat Dessai, Shashi Naik, Mario Fernandes, Siddhanth Morajkar, Arun Botmukle and others were part of the fire-fighting operation.
