MARGAO: The Minister for Water Resources Department (WRD) Vinod Palyekar on Thursday ordered to issue memos to six employees of Gogol and Rawnfond offices, including executive engineer S Kalangutkar for the dereliction of duty.
“When I stepped in the Gogol-Margao office, there was no executive engineer at division IX office. To enquire about it, I visited the head clerk, and to my surprise, I found the head clerk Nikita Cumbharjuakar writing a movement register for the executive engineer. This is intolerable. Totally upset over the gross indiscipline, I asked the chief to issue memorandums to both these officials,” the Minister said, adding that he will continue visiting the South Goa offices to streamline their functioning.
The minister then checked the movement registers thoroughly, visiting all the offices.
He also had a look at the ‘non-working’ biometric machine. The close look at the machine revealed that it was tempered with a purpose.
A journalist showed the Minister loose ends of the cables which were later connected, and the machine started working again.
“Please use and see, if it is working,’’ the Minister insisted upon an employee and when she placed her finger on it, the machine beeped.
He, then visited the Rawanfond WRD office. The employees here too were not in their seats.
“I have asked to issue memorandums to the four employees at the Rawanfond office, who were found to be absent. If they are found absent again, they will be placed under suspension and there will be no mercy. We want to bring discipline in these offices. I have visited the North Goa offices and put a system in place,’’ he said.
A non-working lift was brought to the notice of the Minister. When asked, executive engineer responded that it was not working due to low voltage.
The minister asked the engineer to put off his air- conditioner (AC) unit so that appropriate voltage is made available for the lift to function.
