Outsourcing of work contracts by the government to outsiders has affected the employment prospects of locals, said Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
Speaking to the media, Lobo said that the government is spending money on the garbage contractor who has failed to do the work. Instead the work can be given to locals who would have done a better job.
Speaking further, Lobo said that there is no need to have Drishti in Goa as nearly Rs 26 crore is spent yearly on the lifeguard contract wherein 92 per cent locals are employed but managerial posts are given to outsiders.
Goa is a small state and lacks infrastructure hence a master plan is the need of the hour which can be achieved by taking the NGOs and villagers into confidence. The plan can also be drawn up by local architects, he said. He said that the government has to take a firm decision on the casino issue and ensure that they are not shifted to Agasaim and Candolim or people will take to the streets.
