Most drains in Mapusa desilted: MMC CO

MAPUSA: Claiming that most drains and cross drains in the town have been de-silted, Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer (CO) Clen Madeira said that the work of cleaning drains near Aldona taxi stand has slowed down as they are unable to use earthmoving machinery lest the PWD water pipes in the drains may get damaged.

Madeira also claimed that the civic body will ensure that there is no water-logging next year as it has identified all the spots prone to water-logging in the market.

He also said that next year onwards, the civic body will de-silt full drainage system including all the cross drains.

It may be noted that after water-logging in many parts of the town, the MMC had started a drive to clean all the drains, and it has completed de-silting of almost all the drains.

The council is currently undertaking cleaning of drains at Aldona taxi stand where due to the PWD water pipes, the work has slowed down.

The MMC chief officer said that the council is also undertaking construction of two drains – one at Aldona taxi stand where the drains and cross drains were choked and another near the flower market.

Madeira said that the civic body has asked the PWD engineer to depute workers so that the work of de-silting of drains near the Aldona taxi stand can be executed.
