Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government to remove the newly-sprung vessel ‘Deltin Caravela’ in river Mandovi or else the government would be responsible for any law and order problem that could arise out of it.
Addressing a meeting along with Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Khaunte said Penha de Franca residents will protest against moorings of such vessels, adding, the government is fooling the people on the pretext of employment and getting more and more casinos in the river.
Khaunte said that with the entry of the fifth casino, the social fabric of the village will take a hit like the way it has happened in Calangute and Anjuna and demanded a white paper on number of Goans, their designations and treatment at the casinos.
He said more casinos will lead to more crimes like flesh trade, gambling etc, and that, these things are already showing its effects on the people of the coastal areas.
He said if the government fails to remove the vessel from the river within seven days then there might be a law and order problem for which the government will be fully responsible.
He said the government is insensitive to the problems of the people and has no time for issues such as these. Likeminded people and leaders will be urged, he said, to support the villagers in their opposition to the entry of the fifth casino in the river.
