Multi-level car park building in city to be thrown open mid-May

The tourism department will throw open to the public the first multi-level car parking in the state in Panaji from the third week of May with the soft launching of the facility on Monday, May 9.
Addressing the media at the constructed multi-level car parking facility opposite the Santa Monica jetty in the capital city of Panaji, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said that the project has been undertaken to develop tourist facilities under the ‘Integrated Development of Infrastructure for Heritage and Hinterland Tourism’ in Goa (IDHHT) with financial assistance from the Union ministry of tourism.
“The multi-level car parking facility is the first of its kind in the state of Goa and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 45 crore. The facility can cater to 550 four-wheelers at a time,” he added.
While the parking fees is yet to be declared as the tendering process has not been completed, Parulekar said that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) intends to work out a model which will maintain the building as well earn revenue to the corporation. He further said that the facility will be available to the public from mid of this month.
Built on an area admeasuring 13,556.45 sq metres, the parking facility has four floors including the terrace of the structure where 87 cars can be parked at a time. In addition to the 550 cars parking facility inside the building, 33 cars can be accommodated in the open space outside the building.
Parulekar said that the department has proposals to construct similar facilities at Calangute, Anjuna and Colva, where the department is in possession of land. He said that the department will approach the Centre for funding the projects.
