The Economic Offence Cell (EOC) of Goa police has opposed the bail application of Nilesh Raikar, the main accused in the multi-crore investment fraud by Kamakshi Forex.
Police in their say presented before court of chief judicial magistrate have said that his custody is required for further investigation and prayed that bail may not be granted to him.
Nilesh has moved a bail application for his release before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Kalpana Gawas. The court has issued notices to police, assistant public prosecutor and defense advocate and the matter came before the court on Wednesday. Over 150 investors were present in the court.
Nilesh had filed the bail application before the JMFC Margao, however, on Tuesday he withdrew the same and moved the application before the chief judicial magistrate Margao.
The police said that till date around 412 investors have lodged complaints and the swindled amount is said to be around Rs 55.70 crore.
The police have already frozen around 52 bank accounts of Nilesh and his firm, and there is hardly any money in those accounts.
The EOC has registered an offence under criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and cheating against Nilesh and directors of Kamakshi Forex for swindling crores of rupees from several depositors.
The economic offence cell (EOC) of Goa police arrested the wife and mother of the owner of Kamaxi Forex Private Limited, Nilesh Raikar in an alleged cheating case. The enforcement directorate (ED) is probing into a possible money laundering angle in the case, while also checking if Raikar has black money.
