While JICA engineers are trying to pass the buck on the department of electricity for a delay in commencing the 6.7 MLD sewage treatment plant in Margao, the incessant rains have entered the overflowing open sewerage chambers contributing to a stench in the area. The said work on the STP plant was to commence in May, 2016.
However, sources informed that the engineer concerned of the JICA sewerage project had written to the PWD about the electricity connection and the matter is still being pursued. The source further said that the PWD has not obtained necessary information from the JICA authority with regard to the STP plant.
A Maddel resident, Savio Dias had approached the court on the issue. Sources said that the PWD had submitted to the court that the work on the STP plant will commence in May 2016 and the overflowing sewage problems of the town will be resolved. However till mid June, the much required STP work has not commenced.
