Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the government is undertaking various development projects with common man as the focal point for a balanced progress of the state.
“It is the responsibility of the government to provide various facilities and upgrade their living standard,” Parsekar said.
He was speaking as a chief guest after inaugurating the police station that has been shifted at renovated old PHC building here, on Thursday. Speaker Anant Shet, Sankhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal, chairperson of BMC Satish Gaonkar, vice chairperson Ajeet Birje, BJP mahila leader Shilpa Naik, Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg were present. Parsekar said the citizens should help the police by bringing any wrongdoing to their notice.
Further, he said, Goa being a small state and a tourist destination, the people need to be alert against any untoward act. He appreciated the Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane and said that he does not oppose for the sake of opposing but supports good projects and welfare schemes undertaken by the government.
“Opposition leader Rane is a ‘healthy’ politician and such leaders are needed for protection of democracy in real sense,” Parsekar said.
On the occasion, the chief minister announced that the existing primary school building at Bicholim will be demolished and a new school building will be built. Its foundation stone will be laid within a period of two months, he informed.
Speaker Anant Shet said that a police station should serve as a centre for people and police interaction. This, he said, will establish a peaceful environment and make law and order situation more effective. MLA Dr Sawant said that the trust in police among the people has increased. He announced that the government has decided to construct a new building for Sankhali police station and that the police outpost will also be upgraded.
IGP Sunil Garg welcomed the guests and delivered an introductory speech. Deputy superintendent of police Ramesh Gaonkar proposed the vote of thanks. SP Umesh Gaonkar compered he function.
