VASCO: The rough sea partially washed away four huts besides a toilet, located along the Katem Baina coast late Thursday evening. All the occupants of the affected huts are leant to be safe.

As per sources, the incident was reported at around 8 p.m. The sources informed that strong waves also swept some household material into the sea, but luckily without affecting the occupants.

The huts were occupied by Jafar Shaikh, Nazir Shaikh, Uttappa Chalwadi and Rafiq Kasim Kunti.

Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mormugao Gaurish Shankhwalkar and Mormugao Mamlatdar Laxmikant Dessai, upon  knowing about the incident, sent talathis to the site to get the correct picture.

Two talathis attached to Mormugao mamlatdar’s office Hanumant Mandrekar and D D Korgaonkar inspected the affected huts.

They would be submitting their report to the office of the Deputy Collector and Mormugao Mamlatdar on Friday.

The talathis, during their course of inspection, found that other three to four huts standing in a row also face danger from the rough sea. It is learnt that the talathis have asked the occupants to evacuate the huts in order to prevent any untoward incident.

It has also been noticed that a large portion of  sand dunes has also been washed way by the waves, and so the occupants of the structures along the coast face a risk to their lives.

It may be recalled that the office of Mormugao Mamlatdar has served final notices of demolition to 121 huts, constructed illegally along the Baina coast.

The notices have been issued by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), and 15-days time has been allowed to the occupants to vacate the structures.
