The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday visited the Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) in Vasco along with Power Minister Milind Naik. He was accompanied by the chairman and managing director of GSL Rear Admiral (Retd) Shekhar Mital.
The visit by Parrikar was held in view of the infrastructure development and expansion plan of GSL where the company has been awarded a major mine control measure vessel (MCMV) project to construct 12 vessels, estimated to cost Rs 32,000 crore. The letter of intent to the GSL will be given for the construction of MCMV shortly.
The Defence Minister was satisfied over the work initiated by GSL under the chairmanship of Mital. The Defence Minister also visited the massive shades which have been installed within the GSL yard which will be utilised for the construction of MCMV.
Speaking to this daily, the chairman and managing director of GSL Mital said that the GSL has completed the work of constructing shades estimated to cost Rs 750 crore, while another shade estimated to cost Rs 500 crore is in progress.
Mital disclosed that GSL will invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the infrastructure facilities which has been created for the construction of MCMV project.
“The work of building infrastructure facilities at GSL is in full swing”, stated Mital and expressed his gratitude to the Defence Minister Parrikar for his support in making GSL a model shipyard in the country.
