VASCO: Shopkeepers and vendors at chicken and mutton market near T B Cunha Chawk in Vasco have raised strong concern over garbage remaining uncleared that leads to mosquito and other problems.
According to shopkeepers, heaps of garbage have piled up at different spots around the chicken and mutton market, leading to emanation of foul smell, and causing inconvenience to everyone.
“Mormugao municipal authorities have totally neglected the chicken and mutton market area due to which the garbage has piled up, giving an ugly look to the place,” said a chicken shop owner.
He said he had not seen the garbage vehicle of the municipality coming at all, adding, if the piled up garbage was not cleared immediately it would pose a serious health hazard to the people.
“The stink from the garbage piles is unbearable and if it is not cleared there could be outbreak of infectious diseases,” said another shopkeeper.
The vendors have urged the Mormugao municipal authorities to take note of the garbage problem around T B Cunha Chawk and clear the piles before it really becomes a serious problem.
Meanwhile, when contacted MMC chairperson Deepak Naik, he said that the garbage from chicken and mutton market was not cleared as the municipal workers have been tasked with clearing garbage generated at the Saptah fair.
“For the last couple of days when have been focusing on the garbage generated at the Saptah fair where majority of the workers pressed to clear the day-to-day garbage,” he said. He assured that the garbage piled up in the chicken and mutton market would be cleared without further delay.
