VASCO: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers from four constituencies of Mormugao taluka-Mormugao, Vasco, Dabolim and Cortalim organised a programme-‘70 Years of Independence- Do recall the Sacrifices’ (70 Saal Azadi- Zara Yaad Karo Kurbani), on Sunday.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida along with the BJP workers including youths took out a procession in Vasco town on Sunday morning.
Minister for Science and Technology Alina Saldanha also participated in the rally which was held from Shree Shantadurga temple at Sancoale.
Speaking to this daily, Almeida and Saldanha said that ‘70 Years of Independence- Do recall the Sacrifices’ programme was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 9 in order to develop feeling in every person that nation is first and individual is secondary.
“The programme will help to remember the soldiers and individuals who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom movement,” said Almeida.
Saldanha said that “it is a unique programme launched by Prime Minister Modi which would help to evoke patriotism among the people and a true spirit of nationalism.”
A large number of BJP workers participated in the procession, carrying tricolour in their hands. The BJP workers also shouted slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram,’recalling the freedom struggle movement.
