Governor, CM extend I-Day greetings

PANAJI: Governor Dr Mridula Sinha and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar have greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Independence Day.

In her message, the Governor has said that “it was on this day in the year 1947 that India attained its freedom.  Many leaders and several freedom fighters fought for independence even at the cost of their lives. The valour, heroism and sacrifices made by the freedom fighters paved the way for our independence.”

She said Goans should be proud of the glorious achievements which the state achieved with much efforts post independence of the country.

The present government, she said, is working in every sphere to provide comfort to the people of Goa.

Further, the Governor said that she has adopted five cities in cleanliness mission for making them model cities by the end of 2016. “I have announced an award of Rs 1 lakh to the cleanest city among the five cities by December 2016. My dream is to make Goa the cleanest state.”

The Governor appealed to the people of Goa to carry forward their mission of Swacch Bharat with determination and dedication for achieving higher progress and prosperity.

The Chief Minister, in his message, has said that “since the attainment of Independence in 1947, our nation has made rapid strides in all the developmental spheres and has emerged as one of the fastest developing countries worldwide.”

“In the past four years our government has focused on improving both the social and physical infrastructure of the state. Our prominence has been on inclusive development that would give our people the environment and tools to actualise and manifest their individual potential for the collective good.

Let us all work together with that spirit of idealism, self-sacrifice, discipline and unity of purpose that characterised our freedom struggle for building a modern, developed and progressive nation, the Chief Minister said.
