MAPUSA
The government is taking up projects keeping in mind the requirements for the next 50 years – whether it is sewerage project or police station building or bus stand, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said.
This is not for fulfilling today’s requirement but also considering the requirement down the years, he added.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the much-awaited Mapusa police station building on Tuesday evening in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, WRD Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and others.
Electrical work like installation of transformer, elevator and other works at the building are yet to be completed. Also a tender for furniture is yet to get administrative approval,
Construction work of the building, which was supposed to be completed in 2015, started at good pace, but later due to pending bills and other issues the work slowed down.
Addressing the gathering, Parsekar said, “The state-of-the-art new building of Mapusa police station is better than the police headquarters building. Looking at the facilities here I fear that the DGP may propose to shift the police headquarters to Mapusa. This building is people as well as police-friendly.”
He further said, “In our government’s tenure, we have undertaken various development works across the state. In this year itself three police station buildings have been inaugurated in North Goa – at Pernem, Bicholim and now at Mapusa. Despite financial constraints, our government is taking up many projects as a result one can see works being undertaken. People should bear the hardship as they will reap the benefits of the projects which are worth crores in the long run”.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said, “PWD has habit of issuing separate tenders like for civil works, electrical works, furniture, beatification works separately for the one single project. All the tenders are not cleared at a time, the file of furniture works was pending with the police department since last five months for approvals and reasons are best known to them.”
He further appreciated the hard efforts put in by DySP Mahesh Gaonkar, PI Tushar Lotlikar and his staff and said, “This police station is managing 19 panchayat areas and one municipality jurisdiction hence there is a need for bifurcation of area of other constituency so that more better services can be given to the public.”
“There is a load on the Mapusa police station because of the vast area under its cover. I will request for the additional staff and two PIs, one for Mapusa area and one for the other areas which comes under the jurisdiction of Mapusa police station,” added D’Souza.
DGP Muktesh Chander welcomed the gathering and said, “Work on two new police station buildings are underway one at Quepem where in the work is being executed by PWD and Sanguem police station building has got approval”.
North Goa Superintendent of police Umesh Gaonkar said, “Mapusa police station being in the centre of Bardez taluka has got vast area under its jurisdiction despite of that staff are doing great job as the crime detection rate is 91.7 per cent.”
