CALANGUTE
Calangute villagers under the banner of Bandodkar anniversary organising committee have demanded that the government name a road from Calangute Tinto to Calangute beach as Dayanand Bandodkar Marg.
The 43rd death anniversary of Goa’s first chief minister late Dayanand Bandodkar was observed by the committee led by the BJP block president Gurudas Shirodkar and committee president Eknath Nagvekar paying their homage. Later in the day, local MLA Michael Lobo paid homage to Bandodkar by garlanding his statue.
Villagers who spoke at the occasion included Eknath Nagvekar, Gurudas Shirodkar, Rajendra Korgaonkar, Appa Shirodkar, Sudhesh Shirodkar, Pandurang Madkar, Uday Shirodkar, Babul Rao and others.
Paying tributes to the late leader, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo after garlanding the statue of Dayanand Bandodkar said that the late chief minister was instrumental in implementing the mundkarial law by giving land to tenants and mundkars in the state.
Speaking further, Lobo said that if Goa is boasting of being a literate state it is because of the efforts of Bandodkar and all credit must be given to him.
