PANAJI: Stating that the examination exercise for granting admissions to courses namely medicine and dentistry need to be still streamlined, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said that chief ministers of the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states have expressed their view before Prime Minister Narendra Modi as regards allowing the respective states to conduct their own related tests.

“The Prime Minister has also shown interest in this issue,” he added, pointing out that in the near future, the BJP-ruled states could collectively seek relief from the Supreme Court, pleading that they may be allowed to hold their own entrance tests for medicine and dentistry. “We are still pursuing our demand with the Supreme Court for a separate entrance test for admissions to the two courses,” he said.

Interacting with the media, Parsekar, who holds the education portfolio, said that he is also satisfied with the recent decision of the apex court, which now allows all candidates to appear for the second phase of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as scheduled for July 24, including those who had already appeared for the first phase of the test on May 1.

“This decision is welcome as most of the students, who had appeared for the NEET-I on May 1 did not have enough time to prepare for the exam, and hence faced injustice,” the Chief Minister said.

Parsekar further said that he did not prevent any student from appearing for any exam. “I had advised them to appear for NEET-I on May 1, as well as for Goa Common Entrance Test 2016” he said.
