Major opportunity for Goan youth to join IAF

PANAJI: The Ministry of Defence has decided to hold male recruitment drives for Goan youth in the musician trade and seven non-technical trades of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on June 3 and June 6, respectively, from 7 am onwards at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium at Bambolim.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday coming out with this information said that the recruitment drive is targeted towards providing employment to the Goan youth in the central government, taking advantage of the fact that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is holding an important post at the Centre.

“The Defence Expo 2016, which was recently held in Goa, also received good support from the local college youth,” he said, pointing out that the same could have very well generated interest in many of them to join the different wings of the Indian Armed Forces.

Speaking further, the Chief Minister said that not all jobs in the Indian Armed Forces insist that the recruits work on the borders and face risk. “There are a number of job avenues in these forces, which are less risky and we are trying to introduce Goan youth to them,” he said, revealing that more such recruitment drives would be held in the state in the near future.  It was also informed that the government gives financial incentives to the Goan youth, who opt for career in Indian Armed Forces, which are in three stages and constitute amount of Rs 25,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 75,000.

Wing Commander Maheshwar Bhog, the commanding officer of the No 6 Airmen Selection Centre of the Indian Air Force, speaking on the occasion said that the Indian Air Force has drafted a proposal for the state government as regards its recruitment drive in the state, which will include recruitment of boys who drop out of school after passing the SSC examination. “We will be recruiting boys with minimum SSC pass qualification in the musician trade, while recruiting boys with minimum HSSC pass qualification in the non-technical trades, irrespective of the passing percentage,” he added, pointing out that even married boys would be considered while recruiting, provided that they have minimum age of 22 years, on the date of enrolment.

The boys selected on merit would be enrolled into the Indian Air Force between the last week of December 2016 and first week of January 2017. There are 60 to 70 vacancies in the musician trade, while 5,000 vacancies in the non-technical trades.

Speaking further, Wing Commander Bhog said that the candidates desiring to be recruited under the musician trade are required to be well conversant with playing any one of the musical instruments namely bamboo flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, euphonium, trombone, guitar, violin, octa pad, tabla/ dholak and keyboard/ piano. He also maintained that the non-technical trades have posts such as operations assistant, environment support services assistant, communication technician, meteorological assistant, logistics assistant, administrative assistant and accounts assistant.

“All the posts are regular and pensionable,” Wing Commander Bhog said, maintaining that there are lot many benefits like free medical services for self, family and dependent parents, leave travel concession, school education facility for children, canteen-stores-department, free ration, uniform allowance and above all, better lifestyle. “Furthermore, if the posting is in difficult terrain, then there is a facility of special allowance,” he noted, adding that the Seventh Pay Commission is also at the doorstep, which is an added incentive.

The posting for the candidates would not be at the borders or shores like Army or Navy postings, but in big cities such as Agra, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Jammu, Gwalior, Pune, Kanpur, Lucknow, Guwahati and so on.

The candidates arriving at the recruitment drive will have to appear with original educational mark sheets/ passing certificates and documents. The details can be accessed on www.dip.goa.gov.in or www.airmenselection.gov.in

A related meeting with various secretaries, collectors, director of education, director of higher education, director of information and publicity, All Goa Principals Forum and other bodies was also chaired by the Chief Minister on Tuesday.
