PANAJI: Panaji police have arrested two persons on charges of allegedly cheating a city resident to the tune of around Rs 2.53 lakhs. The police have identified the two accused as Shubham Soni (25) and Karan Kheraliya, (21), both residents of Delhi.
According to the police the accused were in custody of the Mumbai police for a similar offence there. Both were arrested for the offence registered in Panaji police station and have been remanded to 5 days police custody.
The police informed that a complaint in this regard was lodged last month by Shamad Mirkha Mahajjan residing at Altinho, Panaji.
The police referring to the complaint informed that the accused induced the complainant to make payment of Rs 2,53,465 to resolve grievances of the complainant pertaining to his investments.
According to the police, the complainant had invested money in a firm and the accused persons had reportedly assured the complainant of helping to get the invested money back.
According to the police, Mahajjan had lodged a complaint pertaining to the issues of his investments on a consumer complainant website. The accused impersonated to be the employees of the consumer complainant website and communicated to complainant in order to resolve grievances, informed the police adding that accused induced him to make payment of Rs. 2,53,465 and the money was collected by one of the accused in the city in November last year.
