PONDA: Children of the Wanarmare tribe at Nirankal were found to be anemic, malnourished and suffering from fever and skin allergy. This was revealed by doctors of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Shiroda, after they carried out health check-up on the tribe members on Thursday.
After the assurance from the government about compensation and other basic amenities, the Wanarmare tribe at Nirankal received healthcare service from the Shiroda PHC Shiroda.
Following directions from South Goa Collector, the PHC-Shiroda held a health check-up camp at Nirankal for the members of Wanarmare tribe on Thursday.
During the camp, the doctors checked the members of the tribe, which included 43 children. Of these 43 children more than 20 were found to be anemic and malnourished, 3-4 had fever and common cold and some were found to have skin allergy, which needs to be identified further said medical officer Dr Racia Cullaso.
Many adults too were found to be suffering from fever and common cold. One woman was found to be in ante-natal phase and a boy was detected with hearing problem, both were referred to Sub-district Hospital, Ponda, informed the doctors.
According to senior Wanarmare tribe members, many of their children have seen
doctor for the first time and were unaware of medicines. Healthcare was our need and we are thankful that we got it, said a member of the tribe.
