Valpoi police on Wednesday nabbed a driver of a goods-carrier jeep from Karnataka who was involved in a hit-and-run case, wherein two people died, at Kankumbi-Karnataka.
According to Valpoi PI Deepak Pednekar, Mantesh Bilandar, 28, was driving a goods-carrier jeep bearing Karnataka registration, loaded with lemons, and was heading towards Goa from Belagavi when at around 12.30 p.m he dashed against a bike at Kankumbi, killing the rider on the spot while the pillion rider succumbing
later.
The alleged accused after hitting the bike fled the scene with his vehicle towards Goa. Soon after the mishap, the Kankumbi locals alerted Valpoi police about the vehicle and a team, which was posted at the check post, comprising head constable Damodar Gawas, Eknath Gawas, Rohidas Gaonkar and Akshay Naik, managed to intercept the vehicle at the check post at Keri at 1.45 p.m. The driver was arrested under Sections 279, 338, 304 of IPC, 134 readwith 187 of Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle along with the driver has been handed over to Vadagao police station.
