Colva villagers accords nod for panchayat ghar project

With the last gram sabha of the present term, Colva gram sabha gives it nod to key development projects including demolition and reconstruction of the panchayat ghar, installation of CCTVs in the village and development of market complex. The gram sabha also gave its nod for a surplus budget of Rs 3.8 crore.

The gram sabha unanimously passed a resolution for demolition and re-construction of the panchayat ghar. The gram sabha were informed that the panchayat would be shifted to another premises while the new panchayat building is demolished and re-constructed. The villagers also raised concern over the prevailing healthcare issue in the village. MLA Churchill Alemao assured the villagers that he has a proposal to get a primary health centre in Colva for better medical facilities in the village.

It was also decided to install CCTVs in the village for better surveillance while also taking up beautification of the Colva circle.

The garbage issue once again dominated the gram sabha with members demanding a long term solution. A citizen offered space within his private property till such time that the panchayat could find a proper place for garbage management and asked the panchayat to have a proper system in place for segregation of dry waste and a bailing machine.

The gram sabha later passed a resolution for purchasing a bailing machine with government support.

The villagers raised concern over unscrupulous dumping of waste near the sand dunes close to the beach and demanded action from the panchayat against the roadside vegetable vendors and bhel puri ghadas, while some members wanted a long term solution and demanded a proper market complex. Sarpanch Menino Fernandes said the panchayat would serve them notices in this regard.

Earlier the gram sabha approved a surplus budge of Rs 3.8 crore for the financial year 2017-18 with the expenditure pegged at Rs 2.8 crore. The panchayat has an opening balance of Rs 3 crore.
