CALANGUTE
Treatment of a common disease like cataract must be covered under the government health scheme, which will benefit senior citizens in the state, said Calangute MLA Michael Lobo while inaugurating a super specialty health camp organised at the Calangute Association Hall recently in association with Manipal Hospitals.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, Dr Gunjan Baijal, Dr Amol Mahaldar, Dr Rakesh Deshmane, Dr Rohan Dessai and Dr Abhay Khadke were present for the camp.
Speaking further, the Calangute MLA said that the Candolim Primary Health Centre will be upgraded once the new building comes up.
He said hotels and restaurants are creating a nuisance in the beach belt by releasing sewage into the nullahs, which is the main cause of diseases like malaria and dengue.
Dr Salkar said that there are certain loopholes in the health scheme as some diseases are not covered.
He said that the poor can take advantage of the health scheme and get free treatment at Manipal Hospitals, Dona Paula.
He said that more than 1,000 patients were treated at the Manipal Hospital under the health scheme. Calangute ZP member Shawn Martin welcomed the gathering while ex-ZP member Anthony Menezes proposed the vote of thanks.
